HOW TO MELT YOUR LACE AT HOME FOR A FLAWLESS FINISH
A perfectly melted lace frontal is the difference between a wig that screams "I woke up like this" and one that whispers "I bought this." Here at Vanity Xtreme Beauty Lounge in Jackson, Mississippi, we install frontals daily, and the number-one question clients ask between appointments is: How do I re-melt my lace at home when it starts to lift?
Good news you absolutely can refresh your lace at home with the right tools and technique. This guide walks you through every step so your hairline stays seamless until your next salon visit.
YOUR AT-HOME LACE MELT KIT
Before you start, gather the following supplies. Having everything within arm's reach makes the process smoother and prevents mistakes.

STEP-BY-STEP: THE LACE MELT PROCESS
STEP 1 CLEAN THE LACE AND SKIN
Dip a cotton pad in rubbing alcohol and gently wipe the underside of the lace where it has lifted. Then wipe your forehead and hairline. This removes oils, old adhesive, and sweat that prevent a strong bond. Skipping this step is the most common wig problem that leads to lace lifting within hours of re-application.
STEP 2 APPLY THE ADHESIVE
Apply a thin, even layer of lace adhesive along your hairline where the lace will sit. Let it get tacky this usually takes about 60 to 90 seconds depending on the product. Do not rush this. A tacky base creates a stronger hold than a wet one.
STEP 3 PRESS THE LACE DOWN
Using the tail end of your rattail comb, carefully press the lace onto the adhesive starting from the center of your forehead and working outward toward each temple. Press firmly but gently. The goal is to eliminate air bubbles and ensure the lace sits completely flat against your skin. Understanding the difference between HD and transparent lace will help you know how much pressure your specific lace type can handle.
STEP 4 MELT IT DOWN WITH HEAT
Here is where the magic happens. Set your blow dryer to medium heat and hold it about four to six inches from your hairline. Move the dryer slowly across the lace, heating the adhesive through the lace material. The heat activates the glue and causes the lace to fuse against your skin. Spend about 30 seconds on each section.
STEP 5 APPLY THE MELT BAND
While the adhesive is still warm, wrap your elastic melt band snugly around your hairline. The band applies consistent, even pressure that pushes the lace into the adhesive for a bond that truly disappears. Leave the band on for at least 10 to 15 minutes. Many of our clients in Jackson, MS put the band on while they finish their makeup.
STEP 6 COOL AIR AND REVEAL
Before removing the melt band, switch your blow dryer to the cool setting and blast cold air along the hairline for about 20 seconds. Cool air sets the adhesive and locks the lace in place. Then gently remove the melt band and admire your seamless, undetectable hairline.
MAINTENANCE TIPS BETWEEN MELTS
A fresh melt should last five to seven days with proper care. Sleep in a satin bonnet every night. Avoid heavy oils near the hairline they break down adhesive. If you notice slight lifting at the edges, you can spot-treat with a small amount of glue and a quick blast of heat without doing the full process again. For a week-by-week breakdown, see ourfrontal maintenance schedule.
WHEN TO COME BACK TO THE SALON
At-home melting is a maintenance technique, not a replacement for professional installation. If your lace is consistently lifting within a day or two, the adhesive bond may have broken down beyond what a home touch-up can fix. That is your signal to book a frontal maintenance appointment.
